Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association Welcomes New Board Chair and Honours Outgoing Leader, Michael J. Ballingall

Kelowna, B.C. - During the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association recent annual Board Retreat at Sun Peaks Resort, the organization celebrated the exceptional leadership contributions of outgoing Board Chair, Michael J. Ballingall, while welcoming Sandra Oldfield into her new role as Chair.

Ballingall, Senior Vice-President of Marketing & Sales at Big White Ski Resort, has been a dedicated member of the TOTA Board since 1997, serving the past six years as Chair. His leadership was pivotal, especially during the challenging COVID-19 period, guiding TOTA's tourism community through unprecedented difficulties with clarity, enthusiasm, and resilience.

Reflecting on his tenure, Ballingall noted, “When Big White embarked on major resort expansion in 1996, it became evident that TOTA was a cornerstone of tourism in British Columbia, fostering collaboration among industry, government, and airlines. Joining TOTA was an honour and a meaningful way to give back to our community. It’s now time to pass the torch.” Ballingall will continue contributing as Past Chair, supporting TOTA’s ongoing initiatives.

Stepping into the role as Board Chair is Sandra Oldfield, owner of Elysian Projects. Oldfield officially began her leadership following TOTA’s Annual General Meeting and Summit. Joining her on the executive team are Kimo Linders of En Route Travel as Vice Chair, and Cassandra Zerebeski from Destination Silver Star as Secretary Treasurer.

"Our board has dedicated extensive time and effort towards crafting a strategic direction to navigate the complex challenges of our evolving tourism landscape," said Oldfield. "Together with our CEO and the committed TOTA team, we are resolved to drive sustainable growth and resilience in the region. I’d also like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Michael for his invaluable leadership. His wisdom will remain an integral part of our journey ahead."

During the two-day retreat, the newly structured executive team alongside the full TOTA Board reviewed the association’s strategic priorities, particularly addressing recent economic shifts and tariff changes affecting tourism. TOTA remains committed to enhancing the Thompson Okanagan region as a welcoming, inclusive, and sustainable destination that enriches the experiences of both residents and visitors today and for generations to come.
